2014 Housing Giants: Big Gainers
June, 2014

Visiting with a few Housing Giants who increased their revenues most year-over-year.

Buyers today tend to be more cautious and require more proof of value, but they still purchase new homes based largely on emotional factors and justify on facts, says Jeff Kornblau, vice president and COO of Eagle Construction. In response to this behavior, the Glen Allen, Va.-based builder adapted its business style to "think like a consumer" and "act like a retailer," in that the company aims to capture design trends yet offer enough flexibility so buyers can personalize their new homes.

"We actively maintain a wide variety of home plans that are suitable for a variety of different homebuyers," says Kornblau, who attributes 43 percent of the builder’s sales to active-adult/retirement/empty-nester communities, 37 percent to second move-up buyers and beyond, and 20 percent to first move-up. Eagle constructs attached houses with 1,204 to 3,144 square feet and priced from the low $200,000s to the low $700,000s as well as detached homes with 2,220 to 4,991 square feet and priced from the low $320,000s to the high $900,000s.

James River Nurseries | Eagle Construction of Va. | FeedMore House
May 7, 2014

Eagle Construction of Va. is showing a big heart with their upcoming contribution to FeedMore. They first took FeedMore under their wing (so to speak) in 2012 when they selected them to be a beneficiary of the Eagle Classic Golf Tournament. As the story was told by Bud Ohly, Eagle Construction co-founder and president, when they began the search for a charity to support, they were looking for one that did important work, was well organized and touched many lives in a significant way. After considering numerous worthy causes, it was narrowed to two. Unsure which one to go with, he opted for a highly scientific method in making the determination. He e-mailed both organizations and would go with the one that responded first. Call it fate, good fortune, luck, or just really good follow-up skills, it took FeedMore about a minute to respond.

FeedMore House Breaks Ground
May 6, 2014

Richmond, Virginia - May 6, 2014 - Eagle Construction broke ground for the FeedMore House on Tuesday, May 6th at 10am at The Parke at SaddleCreek in Manakin-Sabot.

In attendance were members of the Goochland County Government, FeedMore Staff and Board Members, Eagle Construction Staff and Trade Partners and members of the realty community. Speakers included Juan Conde (Master of Ceremonies), Jeff Kornblau (Vice President/COO, Eagle Construction) Bud Ohly (President/ Co-Founder, Eagle Construction) and Doug Pick (CEO, FeedMore). They were joined by Bryan Kornblau (Chairman of the Eagle Companies), Thomas P. Rohman (Partner, McGuire Woods and Chairman of the FeedMore Board) and Kathy Erhardt (Director of Development, FeedMore) for the Groundbreaking portion of the Ceremony.

The FeedMore house is being built to benefit hungry families and individuals in the Richmond and surrounding area. Eagle Construction and its trade partners are donating their services to build this four-bedroom home in The Parke at SaddleCreek, Eagle's low maintenance single family community in Goochland County.

Once sold, all profits will be donated to FeedMore, allowing Eagle Construction to use its diverse skills and passions to serve the Richmond community in a meaningful way.

The goal of the Eagle/FeedMore partnership is to work together to nourish our community and help fight the battle against hunger. It's a relationship that truly embodies FeedMore's slogan: "Working Together to Feed More."

"We partnered with FeedMore because of how impressed we were with the organization's ability to create vital partnerships among the business community. But also, seeing the impact FeedMore makes in the lives of those who need their help just makes your heart feel good. We have been continuously moved by their effectiveness and wanted to continue our effort and support by doing what we do best, building a home." - Robert "Bud" Ohly, President/ Co-Founder, Eagle Construction.

"FeedMore House Project reinforces Eagle Constructions commitment to building strong, livable communities where neighbors care about each other. We believe that a community is more than a collection of homes, it is a reflection of the people who live there. The goal of the FeedMore House project is to not only donate to this incredible organization but to also create awareness and encourage others to find ways to get involved." - Jeff Kornblau, Chief Operating Officer/ Vice President, Eagle Construction.

"The partnership between FeedMore and Eagle Construction just makes sense. We share the same goal and that is impacting lives and nourishing the community in which we live. It is the American Dream to own a home, Eagle Construction is building a home which will help to achieve the dream of many in helping to provide a meal so that a mother can focus on her next job interview rather than worrying about how she is going to provide a meal for her family, and allowing a father to go to work without concern of where their next meal will come from." - Doug Pick, CEO, FeedMore
